Sales volume doubles in first half of 2011

New York sales volume rose to $12.6 billion in the first half of 2011, a 103% increase compared to the first half of 2010, according to reports from Massey Knakal Realty Services. Volume increased by 52%, compared to the second half of 2010, and 960 properties were sold, up 15% from the same period in 2010. “The trend is upwards,” said Robert Knakal, chairman of Massey Knakal. “It’s making acquisition seem very attractive.”

They hosted a broker party in the exclusive, American Leisure-managed Continental Club & Spa on June 21st. The event was facilitated by Citi Habitats Marketing Group, the exclusive marketing and leasing agent for the building.

Kate Spade to relocate to 2 Park Avenue

Kate Spade, the designer of women’s bags and apparel, is taking two floors at 2 Park Avenue, according to people with knowledge of the deal. The company, a subsidiary of the large retailer Liz Claiborne that includes the eponymous menswear label owned by Kate Spade’s husband Jack Spade, will take floors eight and 12 in the deal, over 80,000 s/f of space for rents in the mid $40s per s/f. Kate Spade will be relocating from 48 West 25th Street. A leasing team from the real estate services firm Newmark Knight Frank led by Newmark’s New York area president David Falk represented Spade in the deal.

Verizon sells portion of 435 West 50th Street for $20.025 million

Verizon New York Inc. has sold a portion of 435 West 50th Street for $20.025 million, according to city records. According to the property’s listing, around 101,000 s/f of the 299,534 s/f building was sold, including the 10th through 16th floors, and portions of the penthouse, ground floor and lower level. The basement of the building primarily houses switching equipment, while the top floors are offices.
