A Lunch’n’Learn lecture will be held on August 24 at noon at Agawam Town & Village Realty offices at 55 Hill Street, Southampton Village to discuss Real Estate opportunities created by LIPA’s Clean Solar Initiative (CSI) feed-in tariff, and how to successfully develop a solar farm suitable for their FIT program.

LIPA’s CSI Feed-In Tariff (FIT) is a program in which a property owner with an eligible solar photovoltaic (PV) electric system is paid a fixed rate for every solar kilowatt hour generated over a 20 year term of a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA).

FIT projects must be interconnected at the distribution level of 13.2 kV and properly engineered. These PPA payments will assist the PV system owner and the property developer in obtaining project financing.

This model has been used successfully by other utilities in the United States to encourage solar PV projects. LIPA has been accepting applications since July 16, 2012. LIPA introduced its new Clean Solar Initiative (CSI) to provide Long Island with the next 50 megawatts (MW) of solar energy on Long Island.

This Lunch’n’Learn seminar is especially geared to brokers, real estate developers, bankers and lawyers but property owners are also welcome.
LIPA’s CSI initiative will advance the development of solar farms and the growth of clean energy jobs on Long Island. LIPA’s CSI is New York State’s first feed-in tariff program and is consistent with the call by Governor Andrew Cuomo to quadruple customer-sited solar energy in New York State by 2013.

At this Lunch’n’Learn, Marc A. Chiffert, P.E, LEED AP, managing partner of AEC Engineering Design and a former president of the NY chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers, will make a presentation.
