The Real Estate Board of New York’s (REBNY) Residential Management Council (RMC), has created a guide to help building owners and managers comply with laws governing the use of carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in their properties.
Local laws require that residential property owners provide and install at least one carbon monoxide detector in every unit. The mandates also call for the replacement of all existing detectors by October or at the end of their useful life, whichever comes later.

Construction has begun for the lobby and entryway renovation at 1290 Ave. of the Americas, designed by Moed de Armas & Shannon.
The project, being undertaken on behalf of Vornado Realty Trust, is part of a major capital improvement initiative designed to enhance the existing prominence of the building while meeting the needs of today’s tenants.

Less lawyering, more deals for Fried Frank maestro

Real estate attorney Meyer Last has billed hours on some of the city’s biggest leases, and on development projects from London to Shanghai.

In July, he celebrated 25 years with Fried Frank, where he is a partner in the real estate division.

“After 25 years, I can say I never did the same type of transaction two times in a row,” he said. “The deals are exciting and the clients are fun and I’ve never regretted it.”

Peter Gaslow, CEO of Empire Office, Inc. announced recently the launch of two new showroom spaces in New York.
Empire Office, a national provider of contract furniture solutions, in January took over an additional 7,500 s/f on the 14th floor of their headquarters at 105 Madison Avenue.
Now occupying space on both the 14th and 15th floors, the total office footprint is about 21,000 s/f of newly designed working showroom space.

New York brokerage has everybody talking

BOND New York has the real estate world talking … in English, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
Eyeing its share of the booming foreign market, the residential rentals and sales brokerage has introduced foreign language videos to its website as part of its recently launched BOND TV.
So far, the firm has filmed videos discussing the New York City real estate market in Japanese, Korean and Chinese with plans for more in Portuguese, German, Spanish, Hebrew, French, Russian, Greek, and Italian.
According to the National Association of Realtors, international home buyers made up a $82 billion chunk of the US sales market in the last year.

Investors announce agreement to acquire Sunrise senior living management company

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (with affiliate KKR), Beecken Petty O’Keefe & Company (BPOC) and Coastwood Senior Housing Partners LLC today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire the management company business of Sunrise Senior Living, Inc., a leading provider of senior living services and housing, for approximately $130 million.
