IOREBA Cruise

Oct. 1: The Industrial and Office Real Estate Brokers Association of the New York Metropolitan Area will set sail from Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken aboard the “Festiva” for its annual dinner cruise event. Boarding will begin at 7 p.m., and the Festiva will cruise the Hudson River from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Participants will enjoy a buffet dinner and unlimited beer, wine and soda. TICA Conference

AREW Luncheon

Oct. 7: The Association of Real Estate Women will begin its 2008-09 season of monthly luncheons with a behind-the-scenes look at the fall of, and life after, Bear Stearns. Guest speaker for the program, entitled “Lions, Tigers and Bear Markets” will be J. Christopher Hoeffel, managing director, JPMorgan Chase and president of the Commercial Mortgage Securities Association. Mr. Hoeffel is the former global co-head of Bear Stearns’ Commercial Mortgage Department.      The luncheon, to be held at Club 101, 101 Park Ave., is being co-hosted with the Financial Women’s Association. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the luncheon and program from 12:30 to 2 p.m. There is no charge for AREW members. Cost for non-members is $130. Reservations may be made at www.arew.org.

IREM Luncheon

Oct. 8: The Greater NY Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management will host their monthly luncheon meeting at the New York Helmsley Hotel, 212 East 42nd Street, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The featured keynote speaker will be Anthony Malkin, President of W&M Properties. The title of his talk will be “Today's leasing, transaction, and capital markets. NYBC Breakfast

Oct. 14: The New York Building Congress hosts a Construction Industry Breakfast Forum focusing on the Building Congress research report, New York City Construction Outlook 2008-2010, which will be released at the forum. CIBS Panel

Oct. 14: A foursome of Long Island’s newest developers/owners will speak at a meeting of the Commercial Industrial Brokers Society of Long Island. CIBS president Ray Ruiz will moderate the discussion, which will be held at the Lower Level Auditorium at RexCorp Executive Park, 58 S. Service Rd., Melville. Oct. 15: The New-York Historical Society's annual History Makers Gala will be held at 6 p.m. and will honor Robert A. Caro, Jack Rudin and the Rudin family. Our gala evening will also be an opportunity for guests to preview the exhibition Grant and Lee in War and Peace. Special Olympics

Oct. 15: Special Olympics New York will hold its 9th Annual Real Estate & Construction Gala to benefit the organization’s programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers. This year’s honorees are Joanne M. Minieri, president and chief operating officer of Forest City Ratner Companies, the New York City subsidiary of Forest City Enterprises, and Ted Moudis, AIA, senior principal and founding partner of Ted Moudis Associates. The Gala begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a program. Tickets are $750 per person; tables start at $5,000. NYU Classes

Oct. 21 to 23: The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate is offering an approved 22.5-hour continuing education course, titled “New York Landlord Tenant Law.” This class fulfills the continuing education requirement for all New York State real estate licensees and is being offered on three consecutive days, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, meeting from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In this 22.5-hour course, you will learn the rights, obligations, and liabilities of owners and occupants and find out how to analyze lease provisions of rent-regulated apartments and commercial properties. AREW Seminar

Oct. 21: The Association of Real Estate Women will host a seminar on a timely topic in a real estate market that is undergoing profound change.
