Developer looking to put golf course back on the map, attract more tournaments
Developer Donald Zucker has bought the North Shore Country Club in Glen Head, New York, from the club’s members. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Nationally renowned for its historic 18-hole golf course, designed in 1916 by A.W. Tillinghast, the creator of the world renowned Bethpage Black course, the North Shore Country Club sits 25 miles from New York City and overlooks the Hempstead Harbor.

The 6,516 yard course remains in pristine condition and virtually unchanged from its original early 20th Century design. The club also has two driving ranges, two putting greens and a chipping area.

Zucker, a Long Island resident, first learned to play golf at North Shore, taking lessons from the course pro, Carl Lohren, nearly 20 years ago.

“I am proud to own one of the world’s most magnificent golf courses, one that has maintained its original beauty for nearly a century, and has hosted many memorable milestones in the great game of golf,” said Zucker.

“I fully intend to honor the club’s rich heritage, and will strive to preserve the golf course and breathe new life into the facility.”

Built during the golden era of golf, North Shore has welcomed some of the game’s greatest players, including Bobby Jones, Chick Evans, and Fred Wright, who were among the Americans playing the course when it co-hosted the 1920 US Amateur Championship with Lord Charles Hope and Cryil Tolley. Throughout its years, North Shore has hosted US Amateur, the Long Island Amateur, MGA Open, and MGA Senior, as well as several Women’s Amateur tournaments.

“While my vision for the future of North Shore centers on golf, I intend to invest significant energy into expanding the club’s marketing and promotional endeavors to showcase our additional assets,” Zucker said.

“By integrating the club’s signature services with our golf experience, I also hope to attract a steady staple of incoming events, including golf outings and golf tournaments.  In fact, I am very much looking forward to welcoming the MGA Senior Tournament next year.”

North Shore amenities include a pool pavilion, a tennis center with 6 Har-tru courts, and a fitness room. The main clubhouse at the North Shore Country Club is able to accommodate an array of events, including weddings, business celebrations, and traditional family gatherings. The property also holds several cottages, rooms, and suites, available for seasonal, weekend or nightly rentals, as well as three in-house dining options.

An advisory committee, to be comprised of five long-standing club members, will collaborate with Zucker on management and operations issues.

Eastern Consolidated both represented the seller, North Shore Country Club, and procured the buyer, Donald Zucker in this sale.

Brian Ezratty, Vice Chairman, together with Senior Director Deborah Gutoff and Director of Financial Services Scott Ellard represented the members of North Shore Country Club, and Mr. Ezratty procured the buyer, Mr. Zucker.
