As the crowds filling the sidewalks of Broadway south of Houston Street become larger and larger each week, retail rents on the main thoroughfare, as well as on Prince, Spring, Wooster and Mercer, have skyrocketed.
Soaring prices, however, have not had a negative impact on demand, as upscale retailers continue to vie for space in the original New York artists enclave, say analysts. Over the first quarter of 2013, prices for retail spaces in SoHo shot up 34.7 percent from the previous quarter, to $423 psf, according to data compiled by Cushman & Wakefield.

Southpole, the streetwear fashion giant, has appointed commercial real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. to market 85,000 square feet at its world headquarters, 222 Bridge Plaza South in Fort Lee. This marks the first time in the 128,000-square-foot, Class B building’s history that a portion has come online for lease.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a 130-year-old organization based in New York City, has moved to 2 Park Avenue, taking 100,000 s/f on the 6th and 7th floors.
The move wasn’t a far leap – the organization was previously housed directly across the street at 3 Park Avenue.
“We’re trying to turn a 130-year-old company into a forward-facing company,” said Tom Loughlin, executive director of ASME.

Cushman &Wakefield announced on Thursday that investment and operating company RXR Realty entered into a 99-year lease for 75 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown.
The Cushman & Wakefield team included Chairman of Global Brokerage, Bruce Mosler; Head of Corporate Finance, Michael Rotchford; Executive Vice President of Investment Sales, Helen Hwang; and Executive Director of Corporate Finance, Louis Wolfowitz.
“As one of New York City’s premier real estate operators, RXR Realty will bring strong development, leasing and management expertise to 75 Rockefeller Plaza,” said Arthur Mirante, Tri-State President of Avison Young, who also worked on the deal. “[I] look forward to seeing the restoration of this landmark Manhattan office building.”
